We enjoyed a delicious lunch at the new Enrichment Center for Huron County. Director Steve Beal was our guest speaker. Both the Norwalk and Willard Centers have full commercial kitchens where nutritious meals are prepared 5 days per week. About 350 meals are delivered each day from the Norwalk and Willard facilities to homebound residents. They also provide on-site congregant meals. We met in the room that is used for the Age Exchange program where a senior volunteer is paired with an elementary student for mentoring and building relationships across generations. The Willard facility is raising funds to build a room for this purpose. Steve encouraged us to check out the newsletter to see all of the activities that go on at both centers. The next Arts in the Park will be Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at McGuan Park where we will make suncatchers. On September 15th we will be at Stokely Park where the children will be crafting with clay. The Kite making Arts in the Park will be rescheduled for sometime in October.
National Night Out last Tuesday was a HUGE success. Special thanks go to Ken Ganley, Fisher Titus, and Marco’s Pizza and the Norwalk Eagles Club.
The Division 12 Picnic is August 12, 2026 in Tiffin. Social time will be held at 5:30 PM and Dinner at 6:00 PM. The cost is $20.00. Please let Jennie know ASAP if you are able to attend.

We had an amazing lunch meeting yesterday at the Norwalk Eagles Club. Cindi Rospert from the Edison Birthplace Museum presented a fascinating account of Milan’s most notable men and a few women from their history. All present thoroughly enjoyed her talk.
Please let Jennie Hipp know if you are able to participate in the July 4 parade. The Kiwanis inflatable was on display at our meeting. We are in the process of having special tshirts made for America’s 250th and Norwalk Kiwanis 107th birthdays. The cost of the shirt is $20.
Next week we meet at the Norwalk Reservoir in Shelter 1 for our annual Kiwanis picnic. If you plan to attend please RSVP Jennie Hipp as soon as possible as lunch will be provided.

We held our first “trial run” lunch meeting at The Norwalk Eagles Club today in their back meeting room. It went very smoothly. The room was quiet and the food tasty. Most of us were happily surprised at how quickly our lunches were ready. We will meet there again next Thursday and then vote on whether to make this our new meeting place.
Ed and Kathy McClendon were our guest speakers today. They shared stories about their recent trip across the country by rail.
Norwalk Kiwanis will have a float in the July4th parade this year. If you are able to participate please contact Jennie Hipp as we are ordering special t-shirts to commemorate America’s 250th birthday and Norwalk Kiwanis 107th. [email protected]

We did not have a speaker today, however, we did have a guest. Catherine Holroyce from Marco’s Pizza joined us to learn more about our club.
Fellow Kiwanian, Marty Anderson, bravely fought his battle with cancer and is now Home with the Lord. A memorial gathering will take place from 3 to 6 PM on Sunday, May 17, 2026 at the Norwalk Alliance Church, 2755 U.S. 250, Norwalk, where a memorial service will begin at 6 P.M. Several of us are planning on attending the memorial service. Please join us if you are able.
Our first Art in the Park craft activity will be Wednesday, May 20, 5 to 7:30 pm. If you are available to help please join us at McGuan park. We will be making squishies. It will not be as messy as it sounds. I promise. All the materials will be provided, but we could use a few helping hands.
Attached is the proposed slate of officers for 2026-2027. It was moved by Ken Russ and seconded by John Brooks to accept the slate of officers as presented. The slate is attached for your review. We had a small group at our lunch meeting today, but a lively discussion as we talked about encouraging new members and to increase our outreach into the community. As we develop our slate of officers please consider how you can be more involved in our mission to make a difference in the lives of the children in our community.
Mark your calendars for Norwalk National Night Out on Tuesday, August 4,2026 from 4 to 7 PM. We will be handing out bicycle helmets with the Kiwanis logo on them. See attached flyer for details.

Workforce Development – job coaching and assistance to help individuals secure meaningful work.
Vocational Habilitation – skill building and workplace readiness for people with disabilities.
Pre-Employment Transition Services – prepares high school students w/disabilities for life after graduation.
Summer Youth Work Experience – provides paid, hands-on work opportunities for youth with disabilities.
Senior Community Service Employment – paid training for adults 55+ to update job skills for re-entry into the workforce.
Re-Entry – helps formerly incarcerated individuals navigate resources and overcome barriers to employment.
Housing & Homeless Support – help individuals/families find shelter and connect with resources.

Norwalk City Mayor Dave Light presented an overview of his state of the city address, as our guest speaker at our lunch meeting on Thursday. Many good things were accomplished in Norwalk last year and much is planned for this year, too.
The Kiwanis Cigar and Bourbon Night Event is March 21, 2026. We need everyone to promote this event. We have the table sponsors filled and now we need everyone’s help in selling tickets and working the event. Please contact Ken Ruess [email protected]
Next week the Aktion Club will be our guest speaker. We will also have the students of the month in attendance.

Happy Tuesday to you all.
Vince Thompson, from Effective Web LLC. was our speaker at our January 8, 2026 lunch meeting. The discussion topic was AI. Vince led a discussion on the positive uses and we also heard about the negative side of AI. Most troubling is the emotional attachment an individual can make with a chatbot.
Students from Norwalk High School and St. Paul’s also attended the lunch today and shared their plans for the future.

Berlin Hts, Trivia Night, January 22, 2026. We are trying to put together our team. Those who participated last year had a great time. If you would like to be a part of the fun please contact Sandy Lonz. A brochure is attached with more details.
Kiwanis Cigar & Bourbon Event – March 21, 2026. Ken Ruess shared a little bit about his adventures in procuring some really nice bourbon and cigars for this event. More details to follow.
Project Happy update: We filled 100 boxes for teenagers and discovered that we could have used 50 more. The boxes were distributed in the Norwalk and Wakeman communities. We also filled 20 duffle bags with necessary items for those young people who have no permanent place to sleep.
There is no lunch meeting this week as the board will meet on Wednesday, Jan. 14 at 5:30 PM at Berry’s.
Our next lunch meeting will be Thursday, January 22, 2026 at 11:45 at Berry’s. I hope to see you then.

Happy Chilly Friday to you!
It was a very informative lunch meeting yesterday at Berry’s. Our speaker was Sue Riley from Love Grows Love. Attending with her were Rylee Pickens and Melissa Whitman. Sue shared information about the many equine programs that Love Grows Love offers. Rylee and Melissa added many details. It was suggested that Kiwanis might want to hold a meeting at their location to gain greater insight into the programs that they offer.
The 2025 Purse Bingo event was a huge success! Thanks to all the volunteers at the event we were able to raise $1,000 more than last year.
Over 350 people attended last weekend’s “Light up Norwalk” event. We had 4 Kiwanis members and 12 Key Clubbers help that day.
We have 100 boxes for teens to fill for Project Happy. If you are able to help fill the boxes contact Sandy Lonz. We will be meeting at her home on Monday, December 15, 2025 at 5:00 P.M. A delicious supper will be provided. We will also be filling 20 duffle bags with essential items for those teens who do not have a regular place to sleep.
“A Vintage Monroeville Christmas” will be held on December 13, 20225. Please see the attached flyer for details. Also that day, we will be ringing the bell for the Salvation Army. There are a few open spots where we need a couple of volunteers. Please contact Sandy if you can help.
St. Paul’s students will share about their Belize trip at our Dec. 11, 2025 lunch meeting. I hope that you can join us for lunch that day.

Happy Thursday to you!
It was an energetic lunch meeting today with our speaker, Stacy Corbin from the Fusion Impact Center in Monroeville. Their mission is “to emphasize teamwork over trophies and presence of over perfection by helping families discover mental focus, confidence, and inner strength. Participants learn to process setbacks and loss without fear; and to reframe failure as feedback and use it as a springboard to try again or try something new.”
We also had students of the month from Norwalk and Saint Paul’s High Schools.
Purse Bingo is next Thursday, November 13, 2025. We will meet at the Norwalk Eagles Club at 11:30 A.M. to help set up for the event.
Light up Norwalk is November 29, 2025 from 4:30 to 8:30 PM. We still need volunteers to help with this event. Please contact Sandy Lonz if you can help.
Sandy has made an inventory of items that we have on hand for the Project Happy shoeboxes. This will be updated after the Purse Bingo event.
Our PreSchool Christmas Party has been replaced with a PreSchool at the Park event which will be held next spring. More details in the coming months.

Purse Bingo is next Thursday, November 13, 2025. We will meet at the Norwalk Eagles Club at 11:30 A.M. to help set up for the event.
Light up Norwalk is November 29, 2025 from 4:30 to 8:30 PM. We still need volunteers to help with this event. Please contact Sandy Lonz if you can help.
Sandy has made an inventory of items that we have on hand for the Project Happy shoeboxes. This will be updated after the Purse Bingo event.
Our PreSchool Christmas Party has been replaced with a PreSchool at the Park event which will be held next spring. More details in the coming months.
